SUMMARY:Confluence
DESCRIPTION:The Art Gallery of Algoma (AGA) is proud and excited to present the exhibition Confluence opening on Nov. 1\, 2024\, at 7 p.m.\nThe participating Artists/Storytellers are Noel (Skip) Jones (Anishinaabe Elder)\, Barbara Nolan (Ojibwa elder and Nishnaabemwinlanguage immersion teacher)\, Sister Mary Jo Radey (Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph)\, and Adriano Di Cerbo ( Lead artist for Confluence and Lead Teacher for the Arts at St. Mary’s College\, Huron Superior District Catholic School Board) \nThis exhibition presents a unique collaboration between various local artists/partners to explore the worldviews of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Drawing on motifs related to natural resources\, the exhibition looks at the importance of the land and water and our interconnectedness with the Earth and each other. Through the exhibition’s sculptural installation\, collective narrative and personal storytelling\, the artists are examining the past\, cultivating a deeper awareness of our shared histories while looking toward a more respectful and inclusive future. The title of the exhibition\, Confluence\, or “a merging of two rivers” suggests a perpetual flow towards transformation. This project will reach wide audiences as it relates to the environment and demographics of Algoma and to universal issues that touch us all. \nFor all inquiries\, please contact Jasmina Jovanovic\,\nExecutive Director/Chief Curator\, Art Gallery of Algoma\njasmina@artgalleryofalgoma.com or at 705-297-3769.\nPicture

SUMMARY:Members exhibition: an Amaizing 50 Years @ the AGA
DESCRIPTION:In the summer of 1975\, the Art Gallery of Algoma was officially incorporated. This was a huge undertaking of a group of dedicated volunteers led by Mrs. Elsie Savoie who became the first President of the Board of the newly formed gallery.\nOver the next five decades the gallery grew tremendously. It touched many people on different levels and became part of life for many generations of Saultites. Either visiting with school or attending many events and programs at the gallery this organization touched people\, made impression on them\, inspired them\, and influenced their choices. \nThis is a call to the AGA Members to share what the gallery means to them\, how they see the gallery as part of their lives and of our community and/or what is their vision for the next 50 years of the AGA.
