Sault Ste. Marie’s “The Walking Man Collective” is excited to
announce the premiere production of “Somewhere Here” by Algoma
playwright W.A. (Wendy) Hamilton. The theatre-based interdisciplinary
performance, which will be staged from June 2nd to June 6th,2027 at
Heliene Inc. on Allen’s Side Road, is the culmination of years of
development. The narrative has undergone creative growth through
workshops and readings, funded by the Ontario Arts Council, Theatre
Creators Recommender grants and the City of Sault Ste. Marie Arts
and Culture Assistance Program. That process is continuing as the
production takes shape. The twelve thousand square foot warehouse
at Heliene will provide a space that will help create an immersive
experience.
“Somewhere Here” explores the power of buried memory and is an
odyssey of rediscovery and catharsis. As the characters use child’s
play and fragments of memory, they go deeper into the recesses of
the protagonist’s mind, employing body memories which are triggered
by half-forgotten sounds, movement and dramatic environmental
conditions.
The Walking Man Collective” brings together a team of creative
individuals from a variety of artistic disciplines to collaborate on the
production; Director Loretta Durat ( In Your Eyes Projects, Sault Youth
Theatre), W.A. Hamilton (Theatre in Motion) and sound and set
designer Michael Burtch (Hinterbrane). The lighting magic will be
provided by Rob Rock. The collective is now in the process of
recruiting actors and crew. Anyone who is interested in being part of
this production can reach us at
