Background

Sister Sophia Kicks the Habit will be presenting at THE LOFT at the Algoma Conservatory November 14th & 15th. Lisa Randall will be performing her 55-minute solo dramedy show with songs, physical comedy, dance and audience interaction! Sister Sophia Kicks the Habit is a conversation with God. It’s a confessional. It’s a liberation of the body and mind and celebration of the spirit. In her own restless night of the soul, Sister Sophia delves into humorous and insightful musings as she experiences an awakening of the body, mind and spirit.

Lisa Randall is an award-winning playwright, singer, actor. Her play, The Sorauren Book Club, received Patron’s Pick Award at the 2022 Toronto Fringe. In the summer of 2025, Sister Sophia premiered at the Hamilton Fringe to critical reviews and then played the Edinburgh and Victoria Fringe Festivals and the Gabriola Theatre Festival, summer 2026.

4 Star Review – Mary Woodward, ScotsGay Arts – Edinburgh

“Magnificent. Lisa Randall is magnificent as Sophia. Her superbly mobile, expressive face speaks volumes; her speaking voice is wonderfully flexible; but it’s her singing voice that is the highlight of this piece for me. Whether it be singing a traditional Latin adoramus te, an intriguing twist on Ave Maria, two gorgeous new compositions and an unforgettable rendition of Tom Lehrer’s Vatican Rag [which itself is worth the ticket price], it’s an aural joy and delight that brings life and colour to what could be, but most definitely isn’t, a monotonous monologue.”
