Sonny Spina – Spartan Death Racer (The Smart As Trees Podcast) Adrian V
Running time: 60 minutes.
Sonny Spina has always enjoyed rigorous physical activity, especially when practiced in the extreme, and the spirit of competition and camaraderie that goes with it. Running, cycling, swimming and anything endurance are areas that serve as a personal testing ground for Sonny. The idea of participating in the world’s most grueling endurance event, the Spartan Death race, was a natural fit for the athlete’s mind, body and spirit that makes up Sonny Spina.
He is living a life that certainly challenges the norm. Sonny has long been a volunteer with Algoma Family Services and with other various charity groups, he has already had a long career with the Sault Ste. Marie Police, and since his relatively recent retirement, has entered the business world in various enterprises including the security, grocery and restaurant fields. Then, there’s his public high-profile position in the world of municipal politics, as a City Councilor, where Sonny won his seat by election in 2022.
The Spartan Death Race is the ultimate challenge, designed to present you with the unexpected and the completely insane! Nothing else on earth will challenge you like The Death Race, both mentally and physically.
Every Death Race is it’s own uniquely brutal challenge, no two races are alike. The race, created by Ultra athlete and Spartan Race founder Joe Desena, was developed as a way for athletes to test themselves both mentally and physically. The Death Races take place in the unexpectedly challenging terrain of the Green Mountains in and around Pittsfield, Vermont, and have lasted over 70 hours. We provide no support. We don’t tell you when it starts. We don’t tell you when it ends. We don’t tell you what it will entail. We want you to fail and encourage you to quit at any time.
