Bushplanes and a Train, written by Richard Jones and illustrated by Amy Williams, is a sequel to the first book, Bailey the Bushplane.
Bushplanes and a Train introduces a trio of new characters – Bella the Helicopter, Brooke the Beech and Tristan the Train – to the gang of Bailey the Beaver, Emily Seebee and Olly the Otter from
the original story.
The sequel also serves as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Ontario Provincial Air Service.
Bailey The Bushplane tells the story of spirited yet insecure bush plane Bailey, Bailey The Beaver. Bailey is determined to fly important bushplane missions, but this inadvertently leads the team of bushplane friends into trouble when an out of control forest fire approaches a remote trading post.
Bushplanes and a Train, the Smoky River Bushplanes meet an old friend, make a new friend and have a big celebration in book two of the Bushplane Stories series.
The two books are available for purchase in Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas, including: The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, Agawa Canyon Tour Train, Coles, Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site, Hogan’s Homestead, Ontario Travel Information Centre, Miss Marie Sault Lock Tours, Pancake Bay Provincial Park, Sault Ste. Marie Duty Free, Sault Ste. Marie Museum, Velorution and downtown Sault Ste. Marie at Stone’s Office Supply.
Richard Jones lives in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario with his wife and two young children. Though originally from Wales, his wife was born and raised in the Sault. In 2007, on his first visit to Canada and Sault Ste. Marie, Richard’s wife took him to the Bushplane Museum. He has been back many times since.
Amy Williams lives and works as a full time artist in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She connects to the local community by painting familiar landscapes in watercolour and ink. In her spare time Amy enjoys hiking and camping Lake Superior with her husband, daughter and triplet sons.
“The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who, in their grueling travels across trackless lands in prehistoric times, looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space, at full speed, above all obstacles, on the infinite highway of the air.”
